This is why some people talk about mild Asperger’s symptoms. But even though Asperger’s syndrome is no longer a formal diagnosis, some people still identify with the diagnosis as well as with Asperger’s symptoms. Please feel free to submit articles to enhance the knowledge, acceptance, understanding and research of Autism and ASD. With dating it does not matter how cruel or sudden the rejection is, when someone demands to be let alone you have to respect that. I’ll tell people, contact this person only once a year and see what happens.

Consider scheduling an appointment with a counselor if you want to learn more about dating with Aspergers. It depends on the severity of the person’s Asperger’s, and how well the two people are able to communicate and understand each other. It can be difficult to date someone with Asperger’s, but it’s also possible for it to be a very rewarding experience. Even if you do not have it with your partner, it can occur to them. You should not overreact if your partner becomes agitated or loses his or her focus suddenly.

So knowing that we are loved and in a stable relationship means a lot. One of the big determining factors for me to give it one more try is that his love for me had been undying. He had always said the words, “I love you”; but sometimes I didn’t “feel” it, not in the way you feel it with an NT. It’s as if there was often a chasm between us – that he was unreachable in some way.

What Factors Raise Your Risk for Asperger’s Syndrome?

The condition is called “spectrum” because symptoms of autism fall on a spectrum. The ends of this spectrum are low and high functionality. Based on how much support you may need to go about your life, you’d be considered more or less functional.

Let them know how you feel

People with Asperger’s tend to be fiercely loyal friends and partners. Once they have committed to someone, they will stick by them through thick and thin. So, if you are looking for a lifetime partner, dating someone with Asperger’s may be a good option for you.

Since the social issues of those on the spectrum often cause them to be naïve, it can be very easy for them to be preyed upon. An adult who gets involved with a violent, abusive, or manipulative person, is then doubly vulnerable. In an emotional situation, the delayed response/awareness may then open them up to further exploitation. Being differently abled in this aspect of expression is often an implied negation of an aspie’s ability to feel. More aspies than not feel a tremendous amount of empathy, compassion, sadness, happiness, and so forth. It is not natural for us to communicate and to express our emotions in a social/relational context the way that it is second nature to NTs.

It is often assumed that autistic people are unable to process the emotions of others. If you are dating a guy with Asperger’s – then it may be hard to get him motivated and ready for sex. If you are dating a girl with Asperger’s – then it will be difficult to find the right time to approach her with intimacy.

If you ask whether or not your butt looks big in your favorite pair of jeans, be ready for the cold, hard truth. While hurt feelings can result, this inability to concoct white lies can be refreshing. It’s an amazing virtue in a world of omissions, half-truths, and bald-faced lies.

I will answer the question of how accurate a diagnosis is, the confidence one can have in a diagnosis of Asperger’s and I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a diagnosis. Here are some words of advice for adults with ASD who hope to find that special person with whom life becomes the wonderful, exciting thing it is. Though an autism diagnosis may bring challenges, it can also have positive effects. If you ask your Aspie partner whether your outfit looks nice and you don’t get the response you’d hoped for, they haven’t intentionally been cruel. Instead, you’re the lucky recipient of truth from someone you can trust.

Talk to your date about how you want them to respond to problems. Aspies can struggle with feelings, and may find it easier to focus on problem-solving. A person on the autism spectrum goes through a meltdown when they temporarily lose control because of their emotional responses to various environmental factors. Often, the syndrome comes with feelings of anxiety, which makes it difficult for those with it to deal with choice. It’s not easy or natural for them to plan for the future and work out what they want from life.
